Featured: What’s Up at PelicanCourt.com?

As of late, I’ve been developing a new website that I’ve been testing here on Pelicancourt.com. So if you’ve dropped by lately and seen a different site, that’s what’s up. After losing a bunch of time and files to a now completely defunct hosting company, I decided to use my site as a testing bed rather than go to the trouble of setting it up locally. Now, I will be getting back to work on re-constructing pc.com back to its original ‘glory’.

The site I most recently developed is called Axis of Greed. Lots of good information there. The site exposes the axis of greed for what it is, money and power-driven corporations that profit off the people. With the new trend of everyone going green, getting healthy and really understanding what goes into our food, our medicines, and how to take control of your own life, this site has got it covered. A good place to start for the new year. Get healthy. That’s the bottom line.

I’ll now be turning my design efforts towards another green project. You could say, that green is my theme for the new year. I’m going to be designing a site for an automotive XPRIZE team. XPRIZE is the foundation that launched the personal rocket last year into space. They now have a new contest that aims to break our dependence on oil by developing a vehicle that can exceed 100mpg(e) and 100 mph. 100++ baby!! Very exciting stuff. Stay tuned.

Along with that, I will be trying to recover my old posts here.  I thought I had a backup of my database, but it’s either corrupted, or I backed up the wrong data.  oops.  So I’ll be piecing things together, as I can.  Remember, always always always back up, and make sure your back up works.  Lesson learned.

Happy Holidays

Here’s hoping your holidays were full of joy and peace.

Still working on resolving my server issues completely, although, there has been progress, just slow progress.

Recovery Mode

I’m still working on recovering my site. After two weeks, my old host is still down, and I’m trying to restore everything back to normal. I’ll be back up and running as soon as possible. Hopefully I can recover my old posts. Please check back. Thanks. sigh.

ps. Anyone thinking of coldfusion hosting with Xtreme-host.com or Worldprowebhosting.com, if they ever come back up, AVOID them. This last month has been a hosting nightmare. nuff said.

Learning AutoCAD

I’ve decided it’s time to switch gears and try something different. I’ve signed up for an AutoCAD certificate course at a local college. I was a little hesitant at first, thinking that AutoCAD wouldn’t exactly have been my first choice years ago when I started designing, so why now, I asked myself. I love what I do. Design is very inspiring to me and most of what I do is what I’d consider creative design. Not exactly what I imagine CAD to be.

But I was looking for a change of pace, and to my surprise, this course has been refreshing. It’s very different than what I do, yet it seems to go so well with it. I’m not sure why I hadn’t considered it long ago. It’ early in the course, so I don’t want to get ahead of myself. But I have to say, it just seems to be the thing I was looking for. No worries, though, I won’t be abandoning my passion for web design for a CAD hat.
I love the precision, exactness and clean lines of technical drawing. Considering how much fun I have with creative design, I guess I just never thought I would have enjoyed technical drawing. There are definitely similar elements and since I’m new to the CAD side of things, I’m not going to try to make any conclusions just yet.

We’ve started off at the basics, and I do mean, the basics. It’s a good thing, too, as it’s been awhile since I’ve been in college and I’m a bit out of practice ~ homework and all. OMG. I was much more organized the first time around.

Right now, we’re working on isometrics. It’s like this fantastic little puzzle. And I love puzzles.
